Week 10

So we have to talk about what we have learned from one of our classes or what we have learned in general form our classes. Um I havent learned a whole lot from any of my classes... they are all basically repeats of high school to me. I took AP honor classes junior and senior year so all the gen eds I am taking are just like that. In classes that I am taking for my major they are all pre-reqs and have nothing that I want to learn either. The thing that I have learned from this first semester and that i will just have to deal with is...so professors really do not care what you think, they want you to write and redo what they think and say. Whatever happened to being told to think what you want and have an opinion. No i am not saying do not listen to the guidelines or the directions but we should be able to say what we think and not be "graded" on our personal opinions. since when are opinions wrong? I had to write a paper for my FCS 100 class last semester on a topic and we had to write what we thought of it. I had to write what the teacher thought of it not what I thought of it to get the grade I wanted. My brother had the same problem. He had a very conservative teacher for com on year and he just gave very liberal speeches, he's speeches were well written, but he always got a D on them because the professor didnt like the topic. Sooner or later this is what all university will turn into... us reproducing the ideas of professors without having our own thoughts and opinions on topics today. I really do not think that is learning.

Week 9- Reseached Topics

I am not really sure where to start with this blog. I do not really understand what she is asking? The First Question she asked is "What problem/issue are you planning ti work on for your researched paper?" I believe that is asking what we are researching?? I am an Apparel Merchandising and Design Major. So my topic I picked for this paper is the sweatshops that are associated with the Fashion Industry. I am going to discuss what the situation was and is, how action has been taken, and what actions need to be further taken to make these "sweatshops" ethically correct places of employment. The problems that I have ran into during this project is that she really has not had us take time and talk about what we are going to discuss in the papers. She just said research a topic in the field of study you are in. Oh well. I am working through this problem by actually sitting down and writing  out a thesis, then main points that I have researched to support my thesis, and start putting my research together. I have done a couple long research papers and I am not really understanding this style in which she is teaching the research paper. Research is not my favorite thing to do well neither is english. As right now, after I finish the blog, I am working on the Annotated Bib. I ran into the problem of what research to use and how to talk about it in each of the descriptions. I have a feeling I will be up for awhile tonight working on this assignment. Another problem I have ran into is what she wants from the paper itself. We have talked a lot about the research aspect, but I find it difficult to research when there is not structure to the research. How can you research when you do not have claims to support by creditable sources.

Blog about Spring Break

A blog about what we are doing doing over spring break. Well since I do not have class on Fridays I get to leave on Thursday! So I am very excited about that. My mom is picking me up after this class and then we are heading to Von Maur, my mom wishes Peoria had one. So we are going there, I am not sure what for, but after that we are heading home. It only takes me about 45 to 50 mins to get home. Not really sure what am doing friday. I think my roommate is coming over to hang out with me and my friend who goes to University of Iowa. My roommate also lives in one of the little towns outside of Peoria. I think we are just having a fire and then hot tubing at my house, maybe with some of my roommates friends too. Thats sometime this weekend. Not doing a whole lot until wed. My sister who is in High School has thursday and friday off, so we are heading up to Wisconsin Dells on Wed night. We are going to go to the Wilderness. I've been to the Wilderness before but last time we were there I had a broken leg and could not do anything. It was a depressing vacation. So this time at the Wilderness it will be better, at least I hope for. I think we are doing some shopping while we are up there. There is a outlet mall so I think we are doing that. We are coming back on Thursday or Friday I'm not totally sure. I obviously do not pay attention to the plans. The rest of break is not a whole lot. My brother starts his spring break the weekend we end ours. So i'll only see him for a couple days. My older sister is student teaching and her school is one of those extended calendars and she gets a three week spring break. I am a little bitter about that. Other then that I have italian take home test to do. I have english homework. Thats really all my spring break will consist of. Nothing great, just relaxing. hope you have a good spring break yourself!
