Week 3

So we are suppose to blog about whatever we choose to for this week. Well I had to go with my parents and one of my sisters to Wausau Wisconsin this weekend to visit my grandma. If no one knows where that is in northern Wisconsin. So my family drove through snow for about six hours. It was a great time. But not really, why? I’m always envious of the kids who talk about their grandmas who come to their games and events, who cook really well and are the people they choose to come see when they are mad at their parents. My mom always tells me about the times she had with her grandparents and they just seem so wonderful. My grandma is not one of those grandparents. I mean I’m grateful for her being around but she just doesn’t understand how to be a grandma. She was great when we were little, however she doesn’t care about the older grandchildren at all. I have younger cousins and that’s all she cares about. It also doesn’t help our cause that we are my mother’s children, because my grandma has such hate for my mom. Now that we are older we are starting to notice all these things about her. We catch her in lies, and she cuts you off and all that type of stuff. I thought grandmas are supposing to listen and not to tell you’re wrong and be nice. I just want to be that typical grandma situation with warm baked cookies type of thing. The typical mother-in-law stereotype fits my grandma almost to the pin. It is really hard to write 300 words for this blog project without it sounding like a rant, a direction manual on a how to thing, or even an informative thing.

Book Review

We are suppose to talk about our favorite book and the cover of that book. I am not much of a reader, I just don't enjoy sitting down and reading, however I do have my favorite childhood book. I got this book when I was probably about a first grade and fell in love with it ever since. The book is Elmer. I loved this book because of the story line and the fantastic colors. This book is about an elephant that is checkered like the seen on the cover and lives within the rest of the elephants who are normal colored grey elephants. Throughout the book he does all sorts of things trying to become that color of the rest of the elephants , like rubbing grapes etc. However the rain washes it off and all the elephants keep making fun of him for being different. Then at the end they want Elmer to fit in and they paint themselves all the loud colors in different patterns. Its a great children's book talking about how its okay to not fit in. The cover is designed just like how Elmer looks throughout the whole book. This book's cover is extremely vibrant and most children are drawn to such colorful objects. The illustrator was smart putting the elephant on the cover because again most children love books associated with animals. The colors are simply stated in the checker pattern. The cover doesn't have anything else on it to the busy pattern simple. Its a children's book, children won't usually care about all the stuff on covers beside the pictures. There isn't much to go off the cover it is a very simple cover. It only consists of a background and main element and the title and author's name. Even the the text is simple to keep the cover from being too busy.

Introduction

Hello. My name is Allison. I'm from Chillicothe Illinois, for those who don't know where that is, it is located about fifteen minutes north of Peoria Illinois. It is a small town about 6,000 people at the most. My dad works for Caterpillar so my family and I move around a fair amount of times. I've relocated seven times throughout my life. One of the locations was to England when I was in the sixth grade and stayed there for two years. That by far is the reason why I am a fashion merchandising major. I enjoy traveling emensly, so I wanted a career that allowed me to do so. But for now I work at Lou's Drive In in Peoria. It is like a Peorian tradition, it was open about sixty years ago and my grandpa knew Lou well so my mom worked there throughout highschool and me and my three other siblings work there now. It is kind of like Sonic in the way you drive up and park your car and a car hop comes out to ur car and takes your order, but way more traditional then Sonic. I work in the kitchen during the summer with my sister and brother where there is no airconditioning and on a normal summer in Illinois it is about 110 degrees in there. Even with the heat, I love the job, the people that work there are great and there are minimal employees. I have two siblings at University of Illinois. My sister, a senior is in her last semester as a student teacher and is graduating in the spring. My brother is a junior, however he is really smart and he is graduating a year early with changing his major multiple times. I also have a little (well not little) sister who is a junior in high school. I'm close with my family because of all the moves. I like sports played soccer since I was about 6 and I was on the dance team in my high school. I liked being involved throughout high school. Overall I have a bubbly personality and LOVE being in college!
